Data is often described as the 'lifeblood' of an organisation and yet it is often found to have poor quality, governance and management; in some businesses this can carry significant financial penalties from regulatory authorities. In other organisations it is the reputation that gets hurt by having poor control over the data. Regardless of how the business is affected it will result in lost revenue and effect the bottom line.

The control and governance of a business's data is a crucial measure to ensure that customers are appropriately protected and that the use of data conforms to guidelines in the business and the wider community.

Organisations often have no formal governance structure for data, the policy is written and the processes and procedures are in evidence but not followed. The predominant cause of this is the belief that data governance and management is an unnecessary overhead which consumes both money and time; It is often a surprise to organisations when they discover that not having sufficient control and governance brings some kind of enforcement regime which may include a penalty. It does not have to be like that; with understanding and business champions the process can be developed and embedded without unnecessary overhead and cost.

Controlling data, the access to it and how it is used is just the right thing to do. Knowing what you have, where it is and how its controlled will enable improved decision making based on scientific analysis. Rubicon-Data provides the mechanism to get the strategy embedded, quality assessed and data controlled in an efficient and effective manner, through understanding what you want and how best to get it.
